This analysis focuses on usage of the shopping cart technology that have been selected to run ecommerce sites in the UK. What market share do the main players have? Does product category influence the choice of shopping cart technology selected?

46% of sites are using Magento, with Shopify the next largest shopping cart technology being used with 23%. No other cart technology has greater than 10% of the market although Bigcommerce (8%), Actinic (8%) and Woocommerce (6%) still have a significant number of UK ecommerce sites using their technology.

Results based on 4,304 UK ecommerce sites having their cart technology identified out of the 9,387 that UKOnlineStores have profiled.

When split by product category the picture changes slightly. See the chart below for changes in cart technology usage by different product categories; Home Furnishings, Clothing, Shopping, Recreation & Hobbies, Sports and Food & Drink.

Magento dominates Home Furnishings ecommerce stores with 54% compared to 20% for Shopify. However this gap is significantly reduced for Clothing & Shoe stores with Shopify having 36% market share and Magento 43%.

Actinic & BigCommerce perform most strongly within Recreation & Hobby stores with 15% & 10% respectively. Actinic also has 12% share in the Sports sector.
